LIFE is the EU’s financial instrument supporting environmental and nature conservation projects. It is an acronym of L’Instrument Financier pour l’Environnement, which means as much as “the financial instrument for the environment”.
Life Nature funds nature conservation projects that preserve or restore natural habitats and populations of endangered feral flora and fauna.
The Life funds are paid out over certain funding periods. The current one, from 2007 – 2013, is called Life+. It was preceded by Life I – III.
The “acidophilous oak woods with moors und heaths” project is one of currently 14 Life projects in North Rhine – Westphalia and is 50%-funded by Life+.
