Restoration of spawning waters for Rana arvalis

One of the most important spawning waters for the moor frog (Rana arvalis) is the site „Moor am Wasserwerk“. A gauge was installed here by Biologische Station in order to determine the water level in frequent intervals over a period of four years. The data gathered this way will help to delvelop a concept to install a nature-orientated water level. Optimal water level is absolutely necessary during the spawning time of the moorfrog in march as well as during the following developmental period of the larvae to the „proper“ frog.

Moors running dry will not only entail the loss of spawning habitats for amphibians but also the loss of habitats for egg deposition and larvae development of many dragonfly species.

Further actions to improve the moors will follow.
