Focal point of the Life+ project ist the habitat „acidophilous oak forest“. With the aim of establishing further acidophilous oak forest in the long run, the forestry office felled Common spruce and Douglas fir in an area of 17 ha during the first weeks of 2013.
Thus, room was created to plant new trees of Common oak. To defend the young trees from damage caused by game animals, tubes around the trunks and/or fencings were installed.
The planting of oak forest will benefit animal species, that are closely connected to this habitat, as stag beetle, middle-spotted woodpecker and other.
